Frequently Asked Questions About 24 Hour and Live-In Care

What is the difference between 24-hour care and live-in style care?

Live-in style care is typically charged at a flat daily rate. It is most used when a client needs and/or wants care throughout the day and occasionally at night. One caregiver will work a minimum of 24 hours at a time and sometimes up to five days in a row. There must be adequate sleeping quarters for the caregiver, and they are expected to get eight hours of rest (5 hours uninterrupted) most days of the week.

24-hour care is billed hourly and is typically broken up into two twelve-hour shifts per day. This type of care is most used when a client needs close supervision and/or attention all day and night and/or when there are not adequate sleeping quarters available for the caregiver, or when care is being provided in a care facility.

What types of support do live-in caregivers provide?

Caregivers can assist with a wide range of tasks, including personal care, help with activities of daily living (ADLs), meal preparation, assistance with exercise, medication monitoring, companionship, light housekeeping and accompanying clients to medical appointments or on outings. Additionally, they are available around the clock in case of emergencies and are a constant contact able to report any changes in condition as soon as they occur.

How does With a Little Help maintain the safety and well-being of seniors in live-in care?

We require our caregivers to meet or exceed all Department of Health requirements and most all are licensed Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), Home Care Aides (HCA) or received their Fundamentals in Caregiving training. We provide continuing education opportunities, perform background checks, and maintain consistent contact with caregivers and families to ensure the well-being of all our clients and staff.

What are the benefits of choosing around-the-clock care over residential facilities?

Live-in care offers personalized, one-on-one care in the comfort of your loved one’s home. It allows for familiarity, flexibility, and a sense of independence, benefiting their emotional well-being. Assisted living is not able to provide constant supervision due to staffing levels and workload of staff.

How does With a Little Help handle the personal space and privacy needs of both the client and the caregiver?

We emphasize the importance of respectful boundaries and provide clear guidelines regarding privacy for both parties. By maintaining open communication along with clear expectations, a comfortable living arrangement is ensured.

Can around-the-clock caregivers assist with medication management?

Yes, live-in caregivers are trained to assist with the self-administration of medication. If a client is unable to self-administer then our caregivers can administer if delegated to do so by a Registered Nurse. We can arrange nurse delegation as needed.

What is the process for setting up around-the-clock care from with a Little Help?

The process begins with a meeting with an intake specialist to determine the client’s needs. We will develop a personalized care plan and match suitable caregivers who are ready to enrich the lives of your loved ones and provide continuous care.
